CAU's First Professor Emeritus Dies
LONG-TIME FACULTY MEMBER LEAVES A LASTING LEGACY ON HIS STUDENTS

MIAMI - Professor Emeritus and long-standing CAU faculty member, Dr. Mariano Alemany, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008, after a lengthy illness.  He served on the CAU Doctoral faculty for nearly 15 years.  His passing is sparking a flood of fond memories throughout the CAU community and is uniting alumni, students, faculty and staff who mourn the loss of a beloved professor, colleague, and friend.

The unsurpassed legacy that Dr. Alemany leaves behind is easily understood in hearing former students and colleagues recall his dedication to his work, his easy manner, genuine character, and his love for this students.  "He will be remembered for his love of learning, his keen and incisive intelligence, and most importantly, for the true gentleman that he always was," said Dr. Carmen Roca, Interim Chancellor, recalling fond memories of Dr. Alemany.

Dr. Ana Maria Pi, former colleague and good friend, remembers: "When Dr. Alemany came to us, life transformed and became broader and richer.  I keep his presence in my thoughts and feelings but I miss the compassion and the unconditional love for life he reflected by just being there."

A service for Dr. Alemany was held on Sunday, March 23, 2008 in Miami Beach, Florida.   The University will hold a memorial service for one of its favorite sons at a date and time to be announced soon.  Meanwhile, a special book in his memory is being compiled with messages from former students, colleagues, and friends.  This is done in celebration of his life and will be presented to his wife.

The book is currently on display in the foyer of CAU's Miami Campus, if you'd wish to add a message.  Alternatively, should you wish to have your message included in the book, please send it via e-mail to mbouwer@albizu.edu.
